Micro-ingredient dosing in animal nutrition

KCD-WiW: accurate dosing and weighing of small ingredients

Small additions influence the composition of every batch. The KCD-WiW combines automatic dosing with a Weigher-in-Weigher system for powders and granules in animal nutrition production. Instead of weighing each ingredient manually, the system brings small and larger additions together in one dosing process. It records doses and can help operators limit over- and under-dosing, subject to the ingredients and system configuration.

What could KCD-WiW improve in your process?

Ingredient use

Controlled dosing can help reduce over-dosing and unnecessary use of costly ingredients.

Batch consistency

Weighing and recording additions helps operators check whether the intended quantities have entered a batch.

Ingredient handling

A closed arrangement can help limit dust and unintended material transfer when the line is designed and cleaned accordingly.

Benefits beyond accuracy

  • Care for sensitive ingredients: review the dosing and transfer path against each ingredient's handling needs.
  • Less manual handling: automation can replace repeated hand additions and reduce direct contact with ingredients.
  • Traceability: recorded doses support production records and quality checks.
  • Flexible batching: a small and a larger weigher accommodate different ingredient quantities within one process.

How it work

Weigher-in-Weigher for different dose sizes
The KCD-WiW integrates a smaller weigher for micro-ingredients into a larger weighing arrangement. Dosing equipment feeds the ingredients to the weighers, while the controls coordinate the recipe, dosing and weighing steps. Precision for small additions The existing KCD-WiW product information states weighing accuracy down to 1 g for the smaller weigher. This is a weighing specification, not a guarantee of dosing accuracy for every ingredient and installation.

Efficiency and handling
Automating ingredient additions can reduce manual weighing steps. A closed arrangement can support a cleaner workplace; how well it controls dust or carryover also depends on the complete installation and cleaning procedures.

Data for production checks
Each dose is recorded. The value of those records for traceability and documentation depends on how the equipment is connected to the plant's automation and quality processes.

Configuration options for KCD-WiW

  • 8 or 12 dosing slides
  • Flexible silo height
  • Steel or flexible silos
  • Material activation, depending on ingredient flow behaviour
  • Connection of two machines to one HMI cabinet
  • Option to extend with KSE's Advanced Dosing Algorithm (ADA)
