Weighing and dosing for animal nutrition

Weigh hopper systems for batch production

When a recipe calls for different quantities of powders and granules, dosing, weighing and controls need to work together. KSE weigh hopper systems bring these steps together so ingredients can be added to each batch in the required quantities. Coordinating dosing and weighing can improve the speed and accuracy of batching, while helping you process a wider range of ingredient quantities within a recipe. The resulting performance and operating costs depend on your materials, configuration and production process.

Weigh hopper design

Accurate dosing across different ingredient quantities

The dosing slide regulates the flow of powders or granules into the weigh hopper. Together with the weighing equipment and its controls, it supports accurate dosing over a broad operating range.

Across different applications, dosing slides can handle additions measured in just a few grams or material flows of up to 600 tons per hour. These figures describe different dosing tasks, not the guaranteed operating range or weighing accuracy of one hopper. Capacity and accuracy must be specified for the selected machine and material.

The hopper and dosing slide have relatively few moving parts. Their design enables gentle product handling, including for fragile ingredients used in aqua feed, and can reduce the risk of bridging at a silo outlet. With appropriate maintenance, a weigh hopper can remain in operation for more than 20 years; service life depends on use and upkeep.

Batch weighing

Batch consistency, traceability and material control

For pet food and other animal nutrition products, controlled weighing helps deliver the specified quantity of each ingredient to the batch. When combined with suitable control software, weighing and material tracking provide records that support traceability and help operators check deviations from the recipe.

Coordinated dosing and weighing can help shorten batching time, improve mixture consistency and limit avoidable use of ingredients. An enclosed installation can also help contain dust and reduce contamination risks. These are process-dependent benefits: equipment alone cannot eliminate contamination or guarantee the same result for every batch.

Service

Support throughout the equipment’s working life

KSE offers 24/7 remote support as well as mechanical assistance, maintenance visits and regular servicing. Preventive care helps keep the weighing equipment performing as intended and reduces the risk of unplanned stops.

Where on-site help or spare parts are needed, KSE can coordinate with local service representatives. The available response and service arrangements depend on your location and agreement.

Connected equipment

Combine the weigh hopper with raw material dosing

The dosing slide connects material discharge to the weighing step. KSE can combine the weigh hopper with raw material dosing equipment and process controls for micro, medium and macro ingredient quantities.

The right combination depends on the recipe, the materials, the required throughput and the layout of your production line. By considering dosing, weighing and controls together, the system can be configured around the quantities your batches require.
